The Group and ATR KimEng Financial Corporation
MFMCP’s competitive edge in asset management springs from the ATR KimEng Group’s long experience in and exposure to the international capital market s.
The ATR KimEng Group is strategically focused on three key business segments: capital markets, insurance and real estate. Beginning with operations in corporate finance and stock broking, the Group has been able, over the years, to build and acquire a variety of other businesses spanning asset management, trust services, money broking, insurance, insurance broking, insurance, and property development.
Group parent ATR KimEng Financial Corporation (ATRKE Financial) is a holding firm listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE). The acronym ATR stands for the surnames of the Group’s managing principals: Mr. Ramon B. Arnaiz, Mr. Manuel N. Tordesillas, and Mr. Lorenzo Andres T. Roxas.
The kernel of the Group’s initial operations, established in 1990, consisted of investment bank Peregrine Capital Philippines, Inc. (PCPI) and PCPI’s subsidiary, stock broker Peregrine Securities Philippines, Inc. (PSPI). These served as the local branches of Hong Kong-based financial conglomerate Peregrine Investment Holdings Ltd.
Following the 1987 Asian Crisis, the Group’s managing principals and their partners acquired ownership of PCPI and PSPI, and re-named these ATR Capital, Inc. and ATR Securities, Inc. Shortly thereafter, the managing principals invited a strategic minority investment from Singapore-based regional stock broker Kim Eng Holdings Ltd., thus prompting further changes in name to ATR KimEng Capital Partners, Inc. (ATRKECPI) and ATR KimEng Securities, Inc. (ATRKESI), respectively.
In June 2003 the ATRKECPI became a wholly-owned subsidiary of ATRKE Financial. ATRKECPI’s operations were injected into ATRKE Financial in a reverse stock swap which effected the Group’s back-door listing on the PSE. (Trading symbol: ATRK)
ATRKE Financial is 45% owned by ATR Holdings, Inc., which is the closely-held vehicle of the Group’s managing principals and their partners. Kim Eng Holdings Ltd. owns another significant stake of 39%. The remaining 16% is widely held by the investing public.
